Shapeshifters of Selly Oak

Hi, my name is Gary and I’m the owner of Shapeshifters in Selly Oak, a duo of private training facilities that specialise in Body Transformations through health optimisation.

This brief guest blog is just to introduce ourselves and to let you know that we’re in the process of developing a seminar series to help the Selly Oak community get their health (and weight) under control.

The seminars will be free to attend for anybody that mentions this article on the Love Selly Oak website and will cover what it really takes to get your physical and emotional health in check without spending your life in the gym or kitchen.

At Shapeshifters we pride ourselves on being Birmingham’s most efficient Body Transformation service where we teach our clients to eat more, train less and achieve the best results in the least amount of time…

So, if you’re the type of person that appreciates a highly efficient, personalised approach to health and well-being then you can find out more about us (and the upcoming seminar series) by clicking this link.

Thanks for reading! I hope to see you soon.

HOT WEATHER ADVICE

With the hot weather looking to continue, during this time, doors and windows are often left open, making homes an easy target for opportunist thieves.

“During the warm weather it’s so easy to become complacent with home security.

“The sun is shining, the heat is rising, and you leave your windows at the back of the house open to let it a cool breeze. But here the problem lies.

“There are criminals out there who are just waiting for the opportunity to make off with your goods. Don’t make it easy for them – follow our security advice.”

Here are a few key tips to keep home and possessions safe when enjoying the summer period.

•    Keep front, patio and back doors closed and locked when you are elsewhere in the house or in the garden.

•    Ensure that all windows and external doors are not only closed but locked at night or when you are out of the house. Even a small window could provide a burglar with an opportunity to reach through and open a larger window to gain access.

•    Remember to close downstairs windows when leaving a room, to deter the opportunist thief.

World Cafe – Funding

On the 30th of September 2017, Selly Oak Neighbourhood Team held a World Café event to try and establish the concerns of people living and working in Selly Oak Ward.

We have a budget from the Active Citizens fund of £6,918 to provide funds to tackle the local issues identified by the community and partners, and want to fund as many projects as we can.

The Active Citizens fund is to create new local community capacity and allow local community projects to develop.  This fund is open to new local groups or existing groups but not to individuals.  The groups applying need not be based in Selly Oak, but must carry out their project in this area, be a constituted group and have a bank account.

If you need help creating your own constitution and getting a bank account we can work with you to achieve this but tell us at an early stage.

Following the World Café event, bids are now invited to tackle the following priorities which have been identified for Selly Oak –

  • Speeding
  • Burglary
  • Anti-Social Behaviour – including fly tipping
  • Student Letting issues – including irresponsible landlords

In order to be considered, projects will need to create new community capacity, they must be sustainable, and must tackle one or more of the priorities identified by the community.

If you would like more information or an application form, please contact Sgt Tedstill via f.tedstill@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk

Completed applications need to be sent to Sgt Tedstill on the above email address by 4pm on Monday 20th November 2017.  They will then be reviewed by a locally formed scrutiny panel who will decide which bids are successful by the end of November 2017
