Crime and Safety

Police Officer and Community Warden on Patrol in Selly Oak

Whilst Selly Oak is in general a safe place, students cannot afford to be complacent about this.  We are working hard to reduce crime across the community – help us reduce it further.

Over the last few years burglary and robbery in particular have been falling as a result of a range of local initiatives put in place to improve student safety in Selly Oak and at the University.

In general there are some very simple rules you and your mates can follow, which will greatly reduce your chances of being a statistic:

  • Burglaries – lock your windows, lock your doors and lock your gates
  • Robbery – Don’t walk home at night by yourself and don’t display your valuables
  • Vehicle crime – don’t leave items on display and lock your doors
  • Alcohol – don’t drink more than you can handle and stay with your mates
