A former burglar has joined forces with West Midlands Police to help keep students safe.
In a hard hitting film, Chris – recently released from prison – speaks candidly about this past offending and how he deliberately targeted dozens of student homes because “they’re a soft touch” and goes on to share simple advice on how to stay safe.
The video, which was developed by West Midlands Police, University of Birmingham Guild of Students and Birmingham Community Safety Partnership (via Selly Oak Student Serious Acquistive Crime Group) is one of a number of measures being taken to help to better inform and engage students in crime prevention. It’s a shame more constabularies in the UK don’t do this – students really think they live in a haven. And they are a soft touch, unfortunately, and don’t realise how serious the situation is until they’re burgled.
